Domestic / International Claims Specialist

The Domestic / International Claims Specialist is responsible for the filing and collection of freight loss and damage claims. The Claims Specialist interacts with and assists internal partners, including BU’s, Legal Counsel, Procurement personnel and Field Representatives. In addition, the Claims Specialist interacts with and assists external suppliers, primarily motor, rail, and air carriers. The International Claims Specialist can assist in managing the Global Cargo Claims Program (GCCP), monitoring and administrating General Averages on a global basis.

Key job tasks of the Claims Specialist include:

  • Evaluate, file, and track loss and damage claims against carriers.

  • Maintain loss and damage claims database.

  • Define and publish monthly claims performance metrics.

  • Escalate claims recovery efforts.

  • Document claims and maintain adequate files.

  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities.

  • Assist external users to effectively and efficiently use the Claims Internet web-site database.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Logistics Services Mgr or Account Manager



  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in the claims management field.

  • Working in large databases, problem resolution, good communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong Computer skills word, power-point, Excel, Database Mgmt skills. Attention to Detail, Time Mgmt.

  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task.

  • 1 to 2 years claims experience.
