What you'll be doing

The Client Portfolio Manager, Private Markets will be CIBC Asset Management's (CAM) Subject Matter Expert (SME) on private alternative investment solutions. The candidate will be responsible for the commercialization of CAM’s private alternatives offerings, effectively developing and maintaining client relationships in Canada and globally with a particular emphasis on elevating CAM’s distribution expertise to deliver a highly saleable and scalable portfolio management suite of private alternative solutions. The role will report to the Managing Director & Head, Client Portfolio Management.

How you'll succeed

  • Client engagement – Serve as key point person on Private Markets, leading CAM’s internal discussions and CAM’s external presence on private investing. Act and serve as the client-facing portfolio manager – collaboratively work with clients, prospective clients and advisors to help build client investment solutions, in conjunction with the Investment and Product Development teams. Responsible for effective communication of portfolio investment strategy, portfolio positioning, and portfolio changes to clients, advisors, prospects, media, and marketplace. Be part of a high-performance, client-focused culture. Maintain a client focus – keeping clients (both internal and external) first and foremost in mind; understanding client needs or servicing requirements and delivering solutions or services that meet or exceed client expectations.

  • Subject Matter Expertise - Act as CAM’s subject matter expert for technical content concerning private market solutions RFPs. Drive the continued commercialization of the investment business, helping execute the strategic growth plan, in alignment with CAM’s corporate strategy. Lead CAM’s efforts to gather comprehensive intelligence on the competitive landscape of private market solutions, including competitor solutions, investment vehicles, and fees.

  • Relationship Building - Inspire colleagues through excellence with an inclusive team orientation and hands-on approach to client development and servicing and advisor relations, at all levels of detail. Be present in CAM’s offices across the country, with regular travel to clients and prospects.

You are an active contributor to this network and go out of your way to stay connected to the many influencers on the business. You'll have a deep understanding of private market solutions including and not limited to real estate, infrastructure, private equity, and private debt.

  • You're digitally savvy. You're creative yet process-driven – constantly seeks to innovate and then create a robust process to capture innovations for consistent and repeatable delivery.

  • You have a degree/diploma in Business, Finance and/or Economics.

  • You’re a certified professional. It’s an asset if you have a CFA. Portfolio Management experience and Business Development leadership is strongly preferred.
