Amazon Controls Integration Engineer , Mechatronics Sustainable Packaging (MSP) in Nashville, Tennessee

Mechatronics Sustainable Packaging is looking for a Controls Integration Engineer to be part of our global team to deliver the next generation of world-class fulfillment systems through the use of advanced technology. Successful candidates are natural self-starters who have prior engineering experience in the integrated automation project life cycle, including development, design, implementation, enhancement, and support.

The Controls Integration Engineer will be part of a full product life cycle and responsible for successful delivery of units for development and operations. You will serve as a liaison between Fulfillment Center Operations (our customer), product design and development engineers.

This role will require the ability to build relationships across a cross functional team capturing and synthesizing the voice of the customer. Their primary goal is to own the field activities integrating, deploying, and troubleshooting solutions for new mechatronics systems and packaging technology; act as a liaison for internal and external resources and be on call as needed to support downtime events. This position will also provide proper training and support to facility controls technicians on system troubleshooting and preventive maintenance to focus on the system performance improvement and optimization. In parallel with the Deployment Teams you will support performance ramp of the technology deployment at scale.

You are able to take the lead on the implementation and delivery of complex system designs and MSP technology in ambiguous and complex problem spaces. You integrate systems for safety, security, stability, and efficiency. You participate in the full system development life cycle, working within broadly defined parameters, including test plan execution and solution quality needs.

Key job responsibilities

  • Write control specification documents for deployment of technology products.

  • Integrate control system products and partner with suppliers and customers.

  • Commissioning: working with all the stakeholders to optimize the workcell to predefined success criteria to ensure smooth handover of technology products.

  • PLC troubleshoot and diagnostic.

  • Own controls/software commissioning tasks for technology products.

  • Design and develop commissioning tools and customer-facing components to facilitate scalable business growth.

  • Lead initiatives to enhance engineering, testing, and operational best practices within the team.

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and testing of both existing and prospective engineering solutions and components.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop control specifications and training materials.

  • Lead incident follow-up, root cause analysis, and documentation.

  • Engage in industrial engineering design for both existing and new material handling systems across our global network.

  • Ensure strict adherence to all Health & Safety (H&S) protocols and actively contribute to the identification and mitigation of potential H&S risks.

  • Foster effective relationships by partnering with various stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in CS or related area.

  • +4 years of hands-on experience in designing, developing, implementing, and supporting PLC-based control systems.

  • Demonstrated expertise of at least 4 years in designing or architecture systems, emphasizing design patterns, reliability, and scalability of both new and existing systems.

  • +4 years of experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python.

  • Skilled in diagnosing PLC control level issues, particularly with Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley systems.

  • Understanding of control systems and software development life-cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.

  • Willingness to travel up to 75% as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 4+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Proficiency in NoSQL technologies and AWS tools and technologies.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $103,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
